EHR Innovation for the Post-MU Market

A shift is occurring in the health IT landscape. Marketplace and Industry alike are beginning to look past the federally mandated incentive programs for health IT adoption. For EHR vendors, who have seen windfall profits as a result of Meaningful Use, this signals a critical shift away from reactive, certification-driven product development towards a more business-oriented strategy. At the recent Health 2.0 conference, a few of these vendors’ strategies were on display with regards to patient engagement and related functionality. In this month’s domain monitor, we will take a closer look at some of the paths a handful of ambulatory vendors appear to be taking to diversify their offerings.

It is important to note that the organizers of Health 2.0 try to focus on those companies that they view as doing something new, something interesting in the market. This does create a natural bias as to who takes the stage at this event. Therefore, the EHR profiles that follow are meant to provide a vignette and an outlook as to the trajectory of this market.
