This report documents how shifting macro drivers are pushing payers toward the digital consumer in different ways than ever before. Notably, Health Insurance Exchanges (HIX), a rapidly evolving digital consumer market, and the erosion of the traditional health insurance business model ? are compelling payers to seek out digital consumer technologies for both population health management and member acquisition/loyalty.
In last year’s version of this report, we tracked 40+ digital consumer initiatives put in place by the largest commercial payers. For this 2013 update, we have tracked 85+ initiatives across a much wider payer spectrum. This expanded set of payers includes large commercial payers, innovative Blues, and provider-aligned payers.
This report will prove invaluable for not only benchmarking one’s own program against leading payer innovators, but also fully understanding the macro forces being exerted upon payers as they struggle to find their new place within the health care value chain.
